Nicholas Elementary School, Located at 6601 Steiner Drive in Sacramento, is currently undergoing a full renovation. Sacramento Unified School District has partnered with United Latinos to bring information to families with students attending Nicholas Elementary School during this time.

With a 44% latino population, United Latinos is in a position to reach families about the changes, and what it means for their students.

Here, we provide on-going information as the school goes through construction.

A New Campus for Nicholas Elementary School

June of 2023 marked the start of the construction of a new campus at the site of Nicholas Elementary School. This is the second of three new campuses made possible by voter approved funding from Measure H. The new Nicholas Elementary will be among the first new schools constructed in Sac City Unified in nearly two decades.

The age, location and demographics of the schools were all key factors in the district’s decision to construct a new campus. Nicholas Elementary was first built over 60 years ago (1958). The new Nicholas campus will be an asset to the entire surrounding community.

What it Means for Students and Families

When completed in Fall 2025, Nicholas Elementary’s updated campus will include an oversized multipurpose room, a STEAM lab, a community room, several shade canopies, a U14 soccer field, and an overall focus on energy efficiency and environmental conservation. The improvements will replace portables with permanent, full-size classrooms, and the total square footage of building space will increase by 6,589 square feet.

During construction, current Nicholas students will be temporarily moved to a different location, with transportation resources provided.

Temporary Campus & Transportation Changes

Due to construction, Nicholas Elementary students will be attending school at the CB Wire location this year.
District Transportation is provided.

Construction Information

Start Date: June, 2023

Projected Completion Date: Fall, 2025

Project description: The Sacramento City Unified School District plans to fully rebuild the Nicholas Elementary School. The number of classrooms would decrease by one, however, the capacity would remain the same (683 seats). The total square footage of building space would increase by 6,589 square feet. Access to the site would be via driveways on Steiner Drive.
